The combination action is a way of turning a stop on or off. It does not keep the stop engaged.

There is indeed a lot involved in implementing stops with a combination action. Search the MIDI Electronics area for lengthy discussions of ways this might be done. A lot of ideas have been thrown around. I don't recall hearing a report from anyone who has successfully completed such a project though.

(At some point I will probably move these posts from this topic into a new topic in the MIDI Electronics area. So look there if your posts "disappear.")

P.S. Barry's project seems close to successful completion but, as far as I know, it is still in the "breadboard" stage, i.e. working hardware on the lab bench but not a finished implementation in a console.

My/Graham's project is working and fully installed in the console.
The LED indicators have yet to be wired in but we are thinking how to impliment the software.

what 5 stops do you have next to the trems on the backrail bit ( left)
another thing I've been thinking about,... is there a set way of arranging stops on the stop rail in order or is it down to personal taste?
i've searched for a console layout of wurlitzer organs ie the tower ballroom wurlitzer and can find nothing available pictures become too pixelated when zooming in

Yes, the stop order is pretty standardized on a Wurlitzer. It is absolutely standard if you are talking about unmodified as it came from the factory. The Miditzer screen layouts are quite accurate. Just take a division and string the pieces together with the lower rail going to the left and the upper rail to the right.

They are the Pedal percusion stops.

The stops are Moonskin's (Grahams) masterpiece graphics printed on photo paper, with tactile switches underneath. The layout is traditional Wurlitzer.

right so my great top rail right to left would be solo to great.. thru to piano 16 then fife 1 to tuba 4
bottom rail right to left 16 vox to 16 horn , 8 kin to to 8 horn, 5 1/3 tib to 8 oboe and so on

I don't think so. If you are doing a 260SP console you would have two rows of stops.

They would be in 4 groups, each having two rows, and ideally not overlapping vertically. Left to right--Pedal, Accompaniment, Great, Solo.

Within each group they go lowest pitch to highest pitch and then percussion, left to right, lower row to upper row.

This spec sheet lists the stops in left to right, bottom to top order:

Ideally you want to split the rows between two pitches, i.e. 8' ends the lower row and 4' starts the upper row.

The great stop rail section would be
lower: 16' Horn to 5 1/3' Tibia
upper: 4' Clarion to Sleigh Bells

The couplers and second touch go on the back rail, a straight rail with shorter tabs just above the Solo manual.
